Small Business Success Index Released by Network Solutions, LLC and the Robert H. Smith School of Business
Network Solutions® and the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business announced today the launch of the Small Business Success Index©, an ongoing measurement of the overall health of U.S. small businesses based on a telephone survey of 1,000 small business owners. The benchmark survey was conducted in December 2008 and January 2009 by Rockbridge Associates, Inc., a custom market research firm based in Great Falls, Virginia.
Small businesses included in the study are privately owned (not publicly traded), for-profit, have fewer than 100 employees and have a payroll and/or contribute to at least 50% of the owner’s household income. The resulting Small Business Success Index identifies and measures the factors that lead to success, based on rigorous statistical analysis. A small business can compare its company to its peers by taking a version of the survey at www.growsmartbusiness.com.
The Index provides a comprehensive read of the overall competitive success of small businesses in the U.S. The survey will be repeated in the future in order to track the state of success of small businesses and identify their specific strengths and weaknesses. The baseline survey report provides an in-depth view of the challenges small businesses face, including their struggles to access capital and identify innovative strategies for growth. The report also highlights the unique strengths of small businesses, including their commitment to meeting customer needs and their ability to succeed by leveraging technology-based business solutions.
